Lawn Mower Surgery

Ride to the Hospital

The ride to the hospital was long. Thank God the bleeding was controlled with the wrap that the Fire Fighters provided. I was in the back of the ambulance with my son holding his hands and talking to him calmly. My phone battery was dying and I wasn't sure where my charger was.

We arrived to the hospital around 7:24 pm and the paramedics led us to our room. The ER nurse came in to do vitals and to check us in. My son screamed when she tried to remove the wrap from his feet to see the wound. She recommended X-Ray to check for broken bones.

Thank God no broken bones!!! The podiatrist was summoned to come to ER for further diagnosis. My son's dad later arrived to offer support and to stay during the whole procedure. Later, around 10:00 pm, the podiatrist came and surgery was recommended.

The Foot Surgery

My son was given a tetanus shot due to the dirt and germs of the blade. He screamed at the length of needle that was inserted in his shoulder. But, then his eyes got even larger when more needles were brought out to numb his feet.  The meds were inserted into his feet and he screamed so loudly throughout the whole 2 hour surgery ordeal.

Afterwards, the ER physician performed small surgeries to his foot after the major surgery by the podiatrist was conducted. Soon, all was done! There were so many stitches provided to 8 major wounds on his left feet. My little trooper decided to give up cutting grass for the summer and has sworn to never touch a lawn mower ever again. His only concern was his soccer tryouts the next week. He was so hurt from not being able to make tryouts.

 Lawn Mower Safety

The following days ahead after the accident has been a wonderful success. God is in control! It could have been so much worse. As we continue to pray for his recovery, we want to make sure that parents are cautious of their children's whereabouts at all times during lawn care.

There have been many lawnmower accidents each year and anyone regardless of age can become a victim. Riding lawnmowers have claimed the lives of many young children under the age of 5 and have resulted in limb loss for numerous others.

Parents and adults, please keep a watch over youth when they are outside with you and operating yard appliances. They are still small and their reflexes may not be quick as adults to be able to respond to danger.

Therefore, stay close to them when they operate equipment. Make sure they understand the "Do's & Don'ts" of equipment use. Never let them out of your site. Parents, and adults, please be quick on knowing First Aid so that you can get immediate help for your child or in order to help someone else. Your fast response time can be a life or death issue.

Please look at some of the following links of lawn mower injuries in order to know the danger.

Summertime is a time for children to run, jump, swim, play, and to enjoy their youthful selves. Not to be in ER, getting their hands, or feet amputated which can lead to a life on crutches or a wheelchair forever.

Let's be careful and watch our children. I am a mother and my son was hurt due to my neglect. Don't let this happen to your child. Let's be safe this summer!

The Lawn Mower Attack

(Parental Discretion Advised-Some of the following images contain graphic content)

Aaaahhhhh!!! Aaahhhhh!!! The sounds of any child that screams in agonizing pain over an injury is devastating, especially if that child is your own!

Just a Normal Saturday

On Saturday, June 8, 2019, my 10-year-old son and I was mowing the grass as we have been doing the past 8 weekends to help a man out with his yard.  My son was finished with the raking, and trimming with the battery operated trimmer and there was a patch of grass around the back porch. I asked him to mow that patch as I spoke with the neighbor and her 3 kids. It didn't seem like much to do on that small patch of grass and I figured he could handle it.

He was doing great! And then it happened!

Oh my Lord!
As I type this, I am just thanking Jesus! Praising God! Ohhh! I am so Thankful, for many things!

Back to the story . . .

The Lawn Mower Accident

I heard my son let out a very loud painful, agonizing scream! And he comes hopping on one foot toward me screaming and my first thought was . . . Oh Lord, he got bit by a snake!

But, No! His shoe was ripped and his foot was dripping blood! I rushed toward him and picked him up with some unknown power (my son weighs 110 lbs) and I run down the yard to place him near my car on the grass. Neighbors started running toward us and started asking what happened.

I yelled to someone to call 911! I asked some lady to grab a towel and ice! I asked someone to hold my son as I looked for my phone in my car. Whew! I am praying and saying Jesus..Jesus..Jesus over and over again!

I get my phone out of the car and call 911 while rushing back to hold my son who is laying on the grass with many strangers helping to hold his foot up! Oh Lord! Jesus! Jesus!

The First 911 Call

I called 911 at 6:32 pm and told them my son is bleeding on his foot and its been cut. They ask me the address and I fumble over the address and the neighbors corrected me. The 911 operator asked me what happened and I say that he cut himself possible on the mower! Oh Lord! Jesus Jesus!

They said the ambulance is on the way!

I go back to my son who is crying hysterically! I called and texted his dad to meet us at the address or the hospital. I sent him pictures of the wound. I get the wrap and ice, but didn't put on his foot. His skin was ripped off of his left big toe and you could see the flesh inside. There was blood and scrapes of scars on his feet and the fleshy skin was the worst wound. Oh Lord Jesus! Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!

We are talking to him trying to calm him and I am trying to keep calm myself! I am talking to people and the lady who I was talking to when the accident happened, she is apologizing and was so very empathetic. I reassured her it wasn't her fault. She was laying on the ground the whole time holding my son's leg up as I propped behind my son holding his head and holding his hand.

10 minutes have passed!

The Second 911 Call

I am worried and the other lady who helped with checking on my son and who brought the towel and other supplies (I nickname her Supervisor because she took charge of helping me and everyone else), made a call to 911 again at 6:43 pm. She told them that a fire station was just 2 blocks from here and they could send some first responders over right way. The operator assured her that they were on the way!

I got up and asked the African lady to sit near my son and to help me hold him. After I stood up, I said, "I will get him to the hospital myself, because this is taking too long for them to get here. " I started to go to my car to clear out the back seat so I can load my son inside. I then asked a Hispanic gentlemen to assist me to load up my items in the car.

The Supervisor then said, "Hold on, just wait till they get here. Its not a good idea when they are on the way. Just wait and see."

15 minutes have passed!

Soon we here sirens and the Fire Department comes down the street to offer assistance! I was perplexed but thankful that someone was here. But where was the ambulance???

The Third 911 Call

I get back on the phone and call them again at 6:54 pm. They said they were on a major interstate and were a few minutes away. Oh..Lord Jesus! Just help my boy! I was trying my best to keep in control and was about to lose it.

The Supervisor rescued me and said to keep calm because your son need you to be calm. She was also trying to calm me down so that I could answer the questions by the Fire Department. I gave the Supervisor my phone to talk to the 911 operator as I completed paperwork for the Fire Department. Soon, I hear more sirens!

The Ambulance Finally Arrives

The Ambulance arrived at 6:58 pm! Wow! Really, really late!
But, I am happy to see them so I can get my son some much needed emergency help!

Finally! We are on our way to the Hospital!

Granny Jones Speaks to Young Black Mothers

Granny Jones is a 74 year old beautiful black elderly lady who is very outspoken and loves to talk about any and everything! Her favorite topics of conversation is about Black History and God's History.

She say she is very concerned about the way young black mothers are raising their children today. She claims that many mothers are single mothers and they are raising many children without the father in the home. This is a big concern due to the breakdown of family roles which leads to other problems in the single parent households. She also believes that many single women are raising their children without any knowledge of their black history and knowledge of God's History.

She says, "When I grew up, you had no options on what you were going to do on Sunday. Your mama just drugged you in, I mean dragged you and your brothers or sisters right on in to the church without any hesitation. Today, our young blacks are quiet hesitant and resentful of going to church.  They now have CHOICES OR OPTIONS! That's a BIG EPIDEMIC! It is like a disease, its contagious and it SPREADS!

For example, if little Shanika is 8 years old and don't know who the first man that God made was or don't know the man who Rowed his

boat on that flood, SOMETHING IS WRONG...I mean totally WRONG!!

But, if you get Shanika's mama and ask her the same questions, she may know, and then she may not. That's still not good for the MAMA to NOT KNOW! You see! I think Shanika's mama's, mama, which is the grandmama, had not been teaching her chullin anything about the Lord! That's where the EPIDEMIC STARTS!

Its a Generational Curse which continues to spread on down from generation to generation and then when little Shanika have kids, they ain't gonna know either! AND THAT'S CONTAGIOUS! Its a crying shame..shame..shame! Oh Lord! We..Gots..TO..do..SOMETHING FAST! Or else, its really gonna spread all over this BLACK GENERATION OF KIDS! Whew Lord, don't even ask Shanika who was the 1st Black President or who the lady was that didn't go to the back of the bus, oh no..don't ...LET ...HER...SPEAK! Have her to HOLD..HER...PEACE!

Black Mother disciplines her son
Sometimes, I shake my head at these Black Young Mothers and I just wanna WHOOOP EM!

Oh Lord, I just wish they were mine! I would SNATCH EM UP and put ‘em on my KNEE and Whoop some sense in to 'em! I wish I COULD WHOOP THE BIBLE ON THEM! Oh Lord, I would make every lick count, and they gonna KNOW the first man God made!
They gonna KNOW the man who rowed that boat!!
They gonna KNOW who was in that lions den!!
They gonna KNOW who was in that fire and they GONNA SAY THEIR NAMES CORRECTLY, ya hear me! Oh Man Goodness!

I am just tired of it! I mean I am SICK OF IT! Ya hear me gurl! We gots to talk to these mamas, but first we got to talk to those TEENAGERS before they become young mamas and young daddy's of the curse! Ooh. I wish these folks in these churches would snatch those kids up and pound their heads with the WORD! And pound those PARENTS TOO! We are losing them to the World ya hear me, gurl!

Young Teen mother
I can go on and on and on! Just these black mamas are messing up! First they should keep their legs closed in the first place and they wouldn't have to worry about any mess. No, its not always the mans fault. He didn't fall on you! You opened the door! And he came in! Stop OPENING THE DOOR AND OPENING YOUR LEGS! Oh..Lord Please Chile! GO TO CHURCH, BIBLE STUDY AND SUNDAY SCHOOL ya Hear me! It's in the BOOK! Ya supposed to wait til marriage and do that hanky panky stuff! Ohh..I am sick of it!

Let me stop! I am gonna talk about these BLACK MEN next time! They are just sitting around IGNORING OUR FATHER! Just sitting on their behinds, smoking, drinking, not working, making babies with no money to care for 'em! Oh...Lord! I am sit down before I get to preaching to them! I just pray for all our generations, especially my People! I love all yall! But, yall got to LOOK UP TO THE HILLS AND ACKNOWLEDGE THE FATHER! Its Plain Simple! Its easy as 1..2..3.. Do.. Re..Mi and A..B..C and all that stuff!

Oh, I said I was gonna go! I'm going now! Just love each other and go to church! Oh Let me pray!
