The Lawn Mower Attack

(Parental Discretion Advised-Some of the following images contain graphic content)

Aaaahhhhh!!! Aaahhhhh!!! The sounds of any child that screams in agonizing pain over an injury is devastating, especially if that child is your own!

Just a Normal Saturday

On Saturday, June 8, 2019, my 10-year-old son and I was mowing the grass as we have been doing the past 8 weekends to help a man out with his yard.  My son was finished with the raking, and trimming with the battery operated trimmer and there was a patch of grass around the back porch. I asked him to mow that patch as I spoke with the neighbor and her 3 kids. It didn't seem like much to do on that small patch of grass and I figured he could handle it.

He was doing great! And then it happened!

Oh my Lord!
As I type this, I am just thanking Jesus! Praising God! Ohhh! I am so Thankful, for many things!

Back to the story . . .

The Lawn Mower Accident

I heard my son let out a very loud painful, agonizing scream! And he comes hopping on one foot toward me screaming and my first thought was . . . Oh Lord, he got bit by a snake!

But, No! His shoe was ripped and his foot was dripping blood! I rushed toward him and picked him up with some unknown power (my son weighs 110 lbs) and I run down the yard to place him near my car on the grass. Neighbors started running toward us and started asking what happened.

I yelled to someone to call 911! I asked some lady to grab a towel and ice! I asked someone to hold my son as I looked for my phone in my car. Whew! I am praying and saying Jesus..Jesus..Jesus over and over again!

I get my phone out of the car and call 911 while rushing back to hold my son who is laying on the grass with many strangers helping to hold his foot up! Oh Lord! Jesus! Jesus!

The First 911 Call

I called 911 at 6:32 pm and told them my son is bleeding on his foot and its been cut. They ask me the address and I fumble over the address and the neighbors corrected me. The 911 operator asked me what happened and I say that he cut himself possible on the mower! Oh Lord! Jesus Jesus!

They said the ambulance is on the way!

I go back to my son who is crying hysterically! I called and texted his dad to meet us at the address or the hospital. I sent him pictures of the wound. I get the wrap and ice, but didn't put on his foot. His skin was ripped off of his left big toe and you could see the flesh inside. There was blood and scrapes of scars on his feet and the fleshy skin was the worst wound. Oh Lord Jesus! Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!

We are talking to him trying to calm him and I am trying to keep calm myself! I am talking to people and the lady who I was talking to when the accident happened, she is apologizing and was so very empathetic. I reassured her it wasn't her fault. She was laying on the ground the whole time holding my son's leg up as I propped behind my son holding his head and holding his hand.

10 minutes have passed!

The Second 911 Call

I am worried and the other lady who helped with checking on my son and who brought the towel and other supplies (I nickname her Supervisor because she took charge of helping me and everyone else), made a call to 911 again at 6:43 pm. She told them that a fire station was just 2 blocks from here and they could send some first responders over right way. The operator assured her that they were on the way!

I got up and asked the African lady to sit near my son and to help me hold him. After I stood up, I said, "I will get him to the hospital myself, because this is taking too long for them to get here. " I started to go to my car to clear out the back seat so I can load my son inside. I then asked a Hispanic gentlemen to assist me to load up my items in the car.

The Supervisor then said, "Hold on, just wait till they get here. Its not a good idea when they are on the way. Just wait and see."

15 minutes have passed!

Soon we here sirens and the Fire Department comes down the street to offer assistance! I was perplexed but thankful that someone was here. But where was the ambulance???

The Third 911 Call

I get back on the phone and call them again at 6:54 pm. They said they were on a major interstate and were a few minutes away. Oh..Lord Jesus! Just help my boy! I was trying my best to keep in control and was about to lose it.

The Supervisor rescued me and said to keep calm because your son need you to be calm. She was also trying to calm me down so that I could answer the questions by the Fire Department. I gave the Supervisor my phone to talk to the 911 operator as I completed paperwork for the Fire Department. Soon, I hear more sirens!

The Ambulance Finally Arrives

The Ambulance arrived at 6:58 pm! Wow! Really, really late!
But, I am happy to see them so I can get my son some much needed emergency help!

Finally! We are on our way to the Hospital!
